Free Mike The Tiger From LSU

So uh… what about the Museums and Zoos that have tigers stuffed or caged? LSU treats Mike pretty well compared to how some zoos treat their animals.

In 2005, a new $3 million habitat was created for Mike. The Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF) raised funds, entirely from private sources, to subsidize the construction project. The habitat (situated between Tiger Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center) features state-of-the-art technologies and includes among its amenities lush plantings, a waterfall, a flowing stream that empties into a wading pond, and rocky plateaus. The new habitat ranks among the largest and finest Tiger preserves in the country and expanded Mike’s home from 2,000 to 15,000 square feet (1,400 m2). It also features research, conservation, and husbandry programs, as well as educational, interpretive, and recreational activities.” - wikipedia

To add to this…

“After Mike V’s death PETA contacted the university and urged them not to replace him with a new tiger.

However, LSU chancellor Sean O’Keefe rejected PETA’s request by stating that LSU would acquire a new tiger. O’Keefe further defended LSU’s decision by noting that four of the previous five ‘Mikes’ lived to be at least 17 years, nearly twice the normal 8-10 year lifespan of tigers in the wild…

LSU did not wish to buy a tiger but instead sought for one to be donated to the school. On July 27, 2007 WBRZ ABC News 2 announced that LSU had located a tiger at Great Cats of (Idaville) Indiana, an Indiana-based large cat and carnivore rescue facility. Plus the first 5 Mike the tigers lives twice as long as wild tigers therefore technically LSU is preserving the species.” - wikipedia

Mike the Tiger is a captive breed tiger whose life is easier and will be LONGER than his wild brethren. Mike VI is also a HYBRID. He does not even exist in the wild, but LSU still uses his home as an educational center for learning about his family’s endangerment. SO you attacking LSU for treating their tiger REALLY well, rather than attacking poorly run zoos is just dumb. Why pick out LSU? Your sense of focus is narrow and illogical. If you attack LSU for LOVING a tiger, you should be attacking ALL the zoos of the world for NOT loving theirs. Even if I did agree with freeing Mike, I would still think you are an idiot. Saving one hybrid tiger isn’t as important as freeing purebred tigers (especially younger ones) that are abused or neglected. Mike the Tiger is LOVED and CHERISHED, and that video is not only wrong… it just sucks balls. You have barely any evidence on LSU for animal cruelty, and the claims you do use to support your “thesis” are so emotionally skewed, I honestly don’t think you did any research… at all. I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry. I don’t normally rant about dumb people on the internet… but this was just one of those times. Next time do at least a little bit of research on LSU’s cruelty towards Mike… please?

Exactly.

People are so fucking stupid. Mike lives in luxury and will have a very long and comfortable life. He is obviously happy.

No one forces him to get into the cage on game days. He only goes if he wants to. The tiger is at home where he is and is treated great.

Maybe instead focus on the tigers living at a fucking gas station in Grosse Tete.

^Agreed. Having studied animal science for 4 years, I am here to tell you PETA is a load of crap, JUST IN CASE you didn’t figure that out on your own yet. Mike’s fine. I second freeing Tony from the Grosse Tete gas station. I actually just saw Tony a couple of weeks ago for the first time, and it was the most depressing thing I’ve probably ever witnessed. It’s blatant abuse to these wonderful animals. Exotic animals should not be allowed as pets, or whatever you want to refer to Tony as, for MANY reasons. Free Tony the Tiger
